| While on an art adventure in Sandpoint, Idaho the concept of Blowouts began to emerge from the collective unconscious. For some time I had been fascinated by the accumulations of tire tread along the freeways. Tentatively I began to insert small pieces into the assembly art. However it was in Idaho that I wrestled my first full size “alligator,” cut it up with a hack saw, and set about making it the focus of a new series. Therefore the first three Blowouts are mounted on wood in the shape of Bonner County. While I was working on these pieces I could say truly, “the freeway is my art supply store!” | |
